Garrett Cole On Growth, Leadership, And Plans For His Future

We’re only a few days out from Thanksgiving and the entire team at Wave 15 is feeling pretty thankful. Every individual, from our executive team down to the newest hire in our company, comes into the office on a daily basis ready to improve our marketing/sales strategies, client relations, and entrepreneurial success. One of those people is Garrett Cole, an Account Manager who joined the industry in November of 2016. Born and raised in Hendersonville, Tennessee, Cole’s home is a bit far from our Tampa stomping grounds, but it’s like he was made to live by the coast. We sat down with this Tennessee native to discuss his business strategy, his goals for the future, and what he is thankful for this year.

What childhood experiences were most influential in your life?

“Hanging around my granddad, who was an entrepreneur and business owner in Nashville, was most influential. He instilled in me a strong work ethic and showed me that if I wanted to be financially and personally free, I needed to find something I’m passionate about and learn to work for myself.”

What was your childhood like? Were you an active kid?

“I played all kinds of sports growing up like baseball, basketball, and football, but once I was in high school, I only focused on one, which was golf. Golf was my favorite and helped me hone in on my competitive side.”

Did you have any idea you would end up in this field?

“I honestly accidentally fell into this business as I was trying to leave my last job. It was a very negative work environment for me and did not offer much opportunity for growth. Once I found this business, I knew this was meant for me. My childhood dream job was a professional bass fisherman, but this is a bit more lucrative. I found this opportunity online and it looked like a great place to work. When I found out that I already had a friend in the company who was super passionate about their work, I knew it was the place for me. I immediately noticed lots of fun, outgoing people with high energy. I was hooked.”

What would you consider your greatest strength?

“My positive outlook on life and general positivity about everything. If you choose to have a positive mindset, you realize that there are too many negative and sad people in life and that’s 100% a choice.”

How would you describe the culture/work environment at Wave 15?

“Everyone is super positive, upbeat, and willing to help each other out. The environment is very focused on growth and goal-oriented.”

How has Wave 15 helped you in your career development?

“I have learned tons of leadership skills, including how to be a stronger, better, and more disciplined person. I have also learned so much about sales and management. It tends to be a bit challenging when someone doesn’t want something for themselves as much as I want it for them, but I’ve learned how to manage myself and become a true leader to those willing to put in the work and make the necessary personal and professional changes.”

What has been your proudest moment in life?

“The proudest moment in life was really when I decided to move out of Nashville and away from all of my family, friends, and everything I knew to focus and grow in my career and gain new experiences in new cities.”

If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?

“My irresponsible purchase would be a Rolls Royce Phantom, then I would invest the rest in storage unit facilities and multiple rental properties and help everyone in my family out with whatever they need.”

How do you define success?

“Knowing what I’m doing now is helping myself and others lead a better, happier, and healthier life.”

What is your favorite thing about working in the marketing/sales industry?

“The genuine and lasting relationships you build with great people.”

What are you passionate about?

“I’m very passionate about helping people develop themselves and hit their goals.”

What motivates you to wake up and go to work?

“Knowing each day is a new day to wake up and be a little better than the day before. I am also motivated by the feeling of gratitude for my health, family, and friends.”

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

“I see myself with Wave 15 in a consulting role and providing opportunity to as many people as possible.”

For Garrett Cole, the motivation is so pure and simple, and that is what makes the strongest team members; people who thrive from supporting others. From serving as a pillar of industry knowledge to a beacon of positivity, there’s one thing we’re certain of, and that’s that Cole’s influence has only just scratched the surface.
